1.Elementary Japanese 2.Writing 3.Reading 4.Speaking 5.Listening This course is a continuation of Japanese Basics 1 and aims to help students devel op the four basic skills of communication (reading, writing, speaking, and listeni ng) in modern Japanese. By the end of this course, students will be able to handle wider varieties of conversation situations and be able to read and write simple l etters and essays. Students will also be familiar with various aspects of Japanese culture including sociolinguistic facts about accurate communication.

Five chapters (Lesson 11 - Lesson 15) will be covered and 78 new kanji will be introduced. Japanese Basics 1 with a grade of C or higher. Transfer students or students seeking to take this course after a break of one semester or more from their study of Japanese must take a placement test. Talk to the head instruc tor immediately if you need to take the placement test.

試験 There will be two Tests in this class. At the end of Lesson 12 and 15, your understanding of structural patterns (grammar), listening comprehension, reading and writing will be tested. The tests will be cumulative and speaking is included.

Daily Quizzes (vocabulary & kanji) are usually given at the beginning of the class. Make-ups w ill be given only with written proof of a legitimate cause of absence (such as a doctor’s not e).
レポート All the assignments must be submitted by the scheduled due date on the Moodle site. Late submi ssions will be accepted within 1 day, but you will only receive a maximum of 50% of the origin al score. The missing assignments of those people who submitted an official document for their absence must be submitted within 5 days after their return to class.

ポートフォリオ You are required to complete a project of your own choosing. You must make three reports to th e instructor. The first report will be your project proposal and you must have the instructor ’s permission to start (Apr. 17). The mid-term report must be submitted (May 7). The final re port (completed project) must be submitted at the end of the course. You will also be required to give a presentation of your completed project on Wednesday, Jun 5.
